Camaro 69
There was a time, in the '60s, in which evidence plucked in the U.S. contributed to the evolution of street cars, and as we were in the era Muscle, nothing more appropriate. The NHRA (National Hot Rod Association) had then a high degree of professionalism, so that the big 3 (GM, Ford and Chrysler) and their respective divisions performance closely followed the competitions. As in NASCAR at that time was a war models and also engines.
Proofs of 400m were nationally famous, as well as its pilots. One was Dick Harrell, who wanted to enter the Super Stock Drag Racing (a category of the competition where cars were more original). But to endorse a particular model, it was necessary to produce at least 50 units to the street. SuperCars Preparadoras as Yenko, Baldwin-Motion and Berger Chevrolet for General Motors produced many of his fastest cars.
At the request of Harrell, the CUP (Central Office Purchase Order) a firm linked to GM developed the model, which unlike other Camaros prepared by "tunadoras" would have a very low visual profile. In aesthetic terms the Camaro was more discreet and less aggressive than the Z/28 or SS models. The curious thing is that the CUP was not even a preparadora cars but expert processing of common models of GM cars in services such as police cars, ambulances, and other vehicles for state and local government agencies.
The engine of this Camaro had 7.0 liters (427 cubic inches) but with the aluminum block, which saved a lot of weight. Thus its operation and performance became more efficient, and of course make the car lighter for torn, there were also two engine series 9560 (430hp) and 9561 (425hp). Officially the engine yielded 436cv (9560 series), but unofficially went beyond 500, more precisely 558cv (550hp), measured on the dynamometer. The reason for 'tax evasion' power is the same for many other Muscles: dribble insurers, environmental bodies, and sometimes even executives automaker itself.
CAMARO 69.
